Through ongoing collaborations with experts in the field of dementia, we are committed to maximizing independence, safety, and personal dignity in any situation.

The challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia are unique to each individual and never remain the same. Whether your loved one is at home, in an assisted living community, or in another alternative setting, Privatus can provide dementia-experienced caregivers to support your current routine, either temporarily or on an ongoing basis. Working with recognized experts in the field, our staff has been trained in the skills of communication and redirection to keep your loved one safe while still maintaining personal dignity and feeling in control.

Some of the effective practices that we employ:

  • Never argue with a dementia patient or try to convince them that they are wrong. Instead, reassure them and respect their feelings, even if the details are incorrect.
  • Take your time. Whether it is giving instructions on putting on a jacket or sitting down to eat breakfast, do not ever rush them.
  • Use distraction. If they become agitated about something, find a way to distract them with music, a snack or a walk.
  • Interact with a kind, calm demeanor. Maintain eye contact and always speak slowly and clearly.
  • Make their choices as easy as possible. Ask one question at a time and limit the number of choices.
  • Create joyful moments. As we get to know each client, we look for ways to spark joy, whether it is looking at old photos, playing certain types of music, or talking about well-loved objects in their home.

Sometimes a spouse is the primary caregiver for a dementia patient.  With the support of Privatus caregivers and nurses, a spouse can have a much-needed break from an exhausting daily routine, whether for a number of hours per day, for a vacation, or to tend to his/her own medical issues.

Your healthcare. Your lifestyle. Your choice.

The possibilities and immeasurable value of private care services are often overlooked as realistic options. Our Client Services Consultants are available at your convenience to discuss various options specific to your situation.
